Help & Training

Everything you need to run your truck with Food Truck OS. Skim the section you need โ€” most take 2 minutes.

๐Ÿš€ Getting started

Go from signup to taking orders the same day.
  1. Pick your cuisine at signup โ€” a starter menu and a branded website build themselves.
  2. Make it yours โ€” in the Website tab add your logo, colors, tagline, and story.
  3. Print your window QR (Website tab) so customers can scan and order from their phone.
  4. Share your link everywhere โ€” social bios, texts, flyers. It always shows today's menu.
๐Ÿ’ก The little "Get set up" checklist at the top of your Orders tab walks you through the first four things. When it's done, it disappears.

๐ŸŒ Your website

A real website with your menu, no web designer needed.
  • Edit anything in the Website tab โ€” colors, logo, tagline, "about us," and your public link.
  • Window QR poster โ€” print it and tape it to your truck; customers scan โ†’ order โ†’ pay.
  • Your site is always live at your public link and updates the instant you change your menu or schedule.

๐Ÿ“ฑ Online orders

Customers order from their phone; you get a ding and a name read aloud.
  • New orders pop up in the Orders tab with a cha-ching and the customer's name spoken out loud (Spanish names in a Spanish voice).
  • Tap Mark ready when it's up, Done when it's handed over.
  • Accepting orders toggle โ€” flip ordering off when you're slammed, back on when the line clears.
  • Payments go to your own Stripe or Square account (connect it in Settings). No processor connected yet? Customers pay at the window.
๐Ÿ’ก Turn on the ๐Ÿ”Š alerts toggle so you hear every order even when you're not staring at the screen.

๐Ÿงพ The register (POS) Sell tab

Ring up walk-up sales so every dollar โ€” cash and card โ€” lands in your books.
  1. Tap menu items to build the order; adjust quantities in the cart.
  2. Tax and tips are applied automatically (set your tax rate + tips in Settings).
  3. Tap how they paid: Cash, Card/Tap, Cash App, Venmo, Zelle, or Other.
  4. Done โ€” the sale is numbered and shows up in Orders + your Money reports.
๐Ÿ’ก Cash and "mark-paid" methods (Venmo/Zelle) work right now. Card/Tap records the sale today and will charge the card once you connect Stripe.

๐Ÿ“ด Working a dead zone festivals & events

Big festivals kill cell service right when the line is longest. Here's the play โ€” set it up before event day.
  1. Open the Sell tab once while you still have signal (that morning is fine). Your menu saves to the phone, and from then on the register works with zero bars.
  2. Keep selling when the signal dies. Ring up sales exactly like normal โ€” each one saves on your phone with a "๐Ÿ’พ saved on this phone" note and a banner counts what's waiting. The moment you're back in coverage, they upload themselves into your Orders and Money reports. Nothing gets lost, nothing double-counts.
  3. Cards with no internet: use Square's Offline Payments. If you have a Square reader, turn on Offline Payments in your Square app before the event (Square app โ†’ Settings โ†’ Checkout โ†’ Offline Payments). The reader stores swipes/taps and processes them when you reconnect. Know the trade-off: Square gives you about 24 hours to get back online, and an offline card can decline later โ€” that risk is on you, so many owners set a limit like $50 per offline card sale.
  4. Cash, Venmo, Zelle, Cash App never need our internet โ€” the customer's payment app is their problem; your register records it offline either way.
  5. Pro move: bring your own internet. Your phone's hotspot โ€” or a ~$25/mo LTE hotspot puck kept in the truck โ€” usually revives online ordering and card processing even when the festival crowd has crushed the local tower. The register and reader both run off your connection, not the customers'.
๐Ÿ’ก Do a 60-second drill before your first big event: put your phone in Airplane Mode, ring up a $1 cash test sale, turn Airplane Mode off, and watch it appear in Orders. Delete the test sale note from your reports later โ€” now you've seen the whole loop work.

๐Ÿ‘ฅ Team & time clock Team tab

Give your crew their own logins and track hours.
  • Invite teammates โ€” pick a role (Manager or Staff), send them the private link. They join when they sign in with that email.
  • Roles: ๐Ÿ‘‘ Owner (everything) ยท ๐Ÿงข Manager (runs the day, invites staff) ยท ๐Ÿ™‹ Staff (orders, menu, register, pause ordering).
  • Time clock โ€” everyone clocks in/out; you see the whole team's hours for the week.
  • Shift schedule โ€” post who works when (next 2 weeks); staff see their shifts.
  • Tip pool โ€” the week's tips split by hours worked, as a fair starting point.
๐Ÿ’ก Have more than one truck? Use the ๐Ÿšš dropdown at the top to switch between them โ€” one login, all your trucks.

๐Ÿ’ฐ Money & expenses

Know your profit today, not next month.
  • The Money at a glance card (Orders tab) shows Today / 7-day / 30-day profit โ€” sales minus the expenses you log โ€” in green or red.
  • Log an expense โ€” gas, propane, ingredients, rent, payroll. Pick a category, done.
  • Download CSV (90 days of sales + expenses) and hand it straight to your bookkeeper.

๐Ÿ—“๏ธ Schedule, events & catering Events tab

  • Where we'll be โ€” post your upcoming stops; they show on your website instantly.
  • Find Us โ€” your regular spots and hours.
  • Events near you โ€” AI-scouted festivals and markets in your area where you can park & sell.
  • Catering requests โ€” customers request events; you add a quote and a deposit, and mark the deposit received when it lands.

๐ŸŽŸ๏ธ Loyalty & followers

  • Loyalty punch card โ€” turn it on in Settings ("buy 9, get the 10th free"). Customers collect punches by entering their email after ordering; you honor the reward at the window.
  • Followers โ€” customers who sign up for "locations & specials" on your site become followers. Post a location and (once email is connected) they get a heads-up.

โœ๏ธ Marketing & AI

  • Blog tab โ€” hit "Write a post with AI"; it writes from your live menu and schedule. Fresh posts help you show up on Google.
  • Marketing tab โ€” build your customer email list and send campaigns (connect an email key in Settings).
  • The dashboard also has a built-in AI helper for wording, ideas, and answering "how do Iโ€ฆ" questions.

๐Ÿ”ง Permits & upkeep Compliance tab

  • License & permit vault โ€” keep every permit and license on hand for inspections, even when you're not on the truck.
  • Maintenance log โ€” oil changes, generator service, fire-extinguisher checks, deep cleans; repeating jobs re-schedule themselves when you mark them done. Overdue jobs turn red.
  • Not sure what permits you need? We have free step-by-step permit guides for every state.

๐Ÿ“ฒ Get the app on your phone

  • iPhone: open your dashboard in Safari โ†’ tap Share โฌ†๏ธŽ โ†’ Add to Home Screen.
  • Android: Chrome menu โ‹ฎ โ†’ Add to Home screen.
  • You get a real app icon, full-screen, same login โ€” it loads instantly.

โ“ FAQ

How do I get paid?

Connect your own Stripe or Square in Settings โ€” card money goes straight to your bank. Until then, customers pay at the window and you log it in the register.

Can my customers order in Spanish?

Yes โ€” your ordering page auto-detects each customer's phone language, with a manual toggle. Your menu item names stay exactly as you wrote them.

Do I need a POS or special hardware?

No. Your phone (or an iPad) is the register. Tap-to-Pay on iPhone โ€” customers tapping a card on your phone โ€” turns on once you connect Stripe.

I already have Square โ€” can I keep it?

Yes. Connect it in Settings and keep your reader. Online orders and QR-to-pay charge through your own Square account, walk-up card swipes work on your Square reader like always, and every sale lands in your reports. No switching, nothing to re-buy.
